And WELCOME, to super-sized post No. 50! Looks like we made it. (Shit, did I use that joke already?) I know you like that new-new so here’s a little bit of that work I promised you from this last weekend, specifically Friday night when I saw Owen at Bottom of the Hill.
The sound at BotH is consistently killer, pints of Anchor are $4.50 (the brewery is practically literally around the corner) and it attracts a fun crowd. I mean, if I’M there… The show itself was great. I liked Survival Guide (featured on yesterday’s post) enough to pick up two copies of their 7″ after the set.
The headliner, Owen, seemed to be having fun with the audience – or at least as much fun as any self-respecting emo-rocker can allow himself to have and still maintain his credibility. I was warned beforehand that I should be ready to cry Elliot Smith style but between the virtuoso guitar work and his considerable rapport with the audience it was hard to have anything but a good time. Mike even did his best Mumford and Sons impression when he had to kick his encore into double-time in order to make the show’s midnight cut-off.
The rain that night made getting cash from my ATM a soaking wet adventure but what about having a good time has ever been easy?

***Allegedly Owen is playing another show at BotH on Feb 28 of this year, if anybody is interested in seeing this guy live and happens to be in the area.***
